2017 Western/Northeast Section Meeting
Aloha SRAI Members!
The Western and Northeast Sections will be jointly meeting from April 2-5, 2017 in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Oceanfront Resort on Waikiki Beach. We want to welcome ALL Sections (Southern, Midwestern, Canadian, and International) to join us for SRA in Hawaii—50th Year in the 50th State: Surfing the Sphere of Research Administration.
We will have an outstanding program at an outstanding venue…what more could you ask for? We will offer six tracks and three certificates in this paradise location. Look for 60 concurrent sessions, full-day and half-day Workshops on Sunday, and an outstanding speaker to open the meeting. We also hope to offer Learning Cafes, as well as, Roundtable discussions. Please consider submitting a presentation (or two) during our call for proposals later this year.
Our opening reception will be a full Hawaiian luau at the hotel on Monday evening, including full buffet dinner, drinks, Hawaiian show and music, and hula lessons.
“Ohana” is a Hawaiian word that means “family.” Ohana is the family of the heart. This is also interpreted as someone who is your best friend, someone who never leaves you behind. As one of our SRAI colleagues, Molly Susag, so eloquently stated:
That is what SRAI does for us. It bonds us through our mutual struggles and experiences, we learn we are not alone and have compassion for our comrades. We may all come from very different places geographically, in level of education, years of experience or gender, but we all become Ohana at these conferences sharing our frustrations and accomplishments just as we would sitting at the dinner table in our houses - and maybe even more so because we know each other's pain. We have found our people! We are grateful for the connections and kindnesses extended to us at the SRAI conferences, and in turn we (hopefully) extend them to the new members and attendees ensuring that no one is left behind and they know that they have a new Ohana.
We are looking forward to creating more experiences with our “SRAI Ohana.” If you are interested in being on the Planning Committee, please e-mail one of us. We are very excited to plan this meeting together and look forward to working with you in this exciting adventure.
