2018 Northeast/Western Section Meeting
A message from the Section Presidents…
Please join us at the Northeast/Western Section meeting March 18-21, 2018 at the OMNI Parker House in Boston. A qualitative program will be offered in this vibrant, historic city. Boston is the birthplace of the American Revolution including the Boston Tea Party and the midnight ride of Paul Revere. It is also home to several world-class theaters, museums and educational institutions. We hope you will come to Boston and expand your research administration knowledge, network with your colleagues, meet new friends, and explore this exciting and historic city.
BOOK. Our host hotel is the Historic OMNI Parker House in the heart of downtown near Boston Common and just 10 minutes from Logan International Airport. Located on the Freedom Trail, it is the oldest of Boston’s elegant inns and the longest continuously operating hotel in the US. The hotel’s namesake restaurant is also the birthplace of Boston Cream Pie, Parker House Rolls and Boston Scrod. The SRAI Room block is now open for reservations, so book soon! Conference registration will open in December.
EXPLORE. Boston is known as “America’s Walking City” and there are a lot of things to do on a short walk (30 minutes or less): Take an Old Town Trolley Tour, explore the Freedom Trail, shop at Faneuil Hall Marketplace/Quincy Market, ride the Greenway Carousel, visit Boston’s Tall Ships and the New England Aquarium, follow Paul Revere’s ride, attend a theater performance, visit the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum, the Boston Children’s Museum and Harborwalk, or visit the Museum of Science.
With so many local activities and attractions, there’s bound to be something that’ll suit your interests.
DINE. There is an abundance of great restaurants, wineries and breweries, and of course, Irish pubs throughout the Boston area. The variety of cuisines is extensive, so there is something for everyone, including the original Cheers bar that was featured in the 1980s TV series which is just a short walk across Boston Common.
VOLUNTEER. We will be ramping up our planning soon, and we need your help!! If you are interested in helping plan the meeting, please stop by the booth at the Annual Meeting in Vancouver (October 14-18) or send us an email and let us know what you are interested in. We can use your help in multiple areas including Entertainment & Outside Activities, Newcomer Reception, Opening Reception, Dinner Groups, Social Media, Hospitality, Marketing and more.
NETWORK. This meeting will be the perfect opportunity to network with your fellow Research Administrators and to visit the historic City of Boston! We hope to provide ample opportunities to mingle with your colleagues. As we know, making friends in the research administration community is essential. We can’t do this complicated work alone.
We look forward to seeing you there!
