SRA International members rock! As research management and administration professionals, they never stop improving, learning, achieving, or earning new heights of success. We love sharing good news and offering a well-deserved slap on the back for recent personal and/or professional achievement. In keeping with that sentiment, please join with us as we congratulate Patricia Buennemeyer for her years of dedicated service to RACC and SRAI!
SRA International is a professional networking community of learners. One way to gain knowledge and expertise is to share our stories of successful achievements with our peers and colleagues. Often research managers/administrators are cast in the role of promoting, supporting and applauding others. While this may be gratifying in many respects, it is also healthy to have pride in one’s own accomplishments. Kudos Korner offers SRA International members a wonderful and respectful venue for sharing and “bragging.”

Chair, Emeritus, Research Administrators Certification Council
During her almost 40 years of experience in research administration, Patricia (Pat) Buennemeyer has been a member and devoted supporter of the Society of Research Administrators International (SRAI).
Since 1993, Pat was an integral part of overall efforts to raise the professional recognition of research administrators through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) certification as a proponent, and then as a committed RACC board member. Pat says that: “Throughout, I have remained an advocate for the profession of research administration and have had the opportunity to work with some of the finest research administrators and communicate with some of the greatest professionals in the field of research administration.” Pat is a person known to individuals across our society and our profession. She has long been a promoter of professionalizing the research administration field through certification and helping shape the leadership and certification program administered by RACC’s “Body of Knowledge” and professional certifications. She is also a well-known figure to newbies entering the profession who hope to expand their competencies and career path within our field: “My goal for supporting the Certification of research administrators was to raise the level of the profession.” Certification has been a major asset to our profession and Pat firmly believes it has advanced careers for countless research administrators. Pat has been a champion of professional development for research administrators throughout her career.
Pat will be stepping down from her current RACC role this year, but while many think of Pat as the “face” of the Research Administrators Certification Council she is so much more. Pat was President of the Virginia Society of SRAI between 1999 and 2000 and served on the Chapter’s Board from 1994‐2000. She also was President of the Southern Section of SRAI from 1996‐98. She served on the SRAI Board from 2000‐2004. Pat has organized and presented numerous sessions for SRAI members at chapter, section, and annual meetings over the years. In fact, Pat developed SRAI’s first Section Leadership Guide, which has never truly been replaced. In 2016 Pat was honored at the SRAI Annual Meeting in San Antonio when she was presented with the Society’s highest honor – The Herbert B. Chermside Award for Distinguished Contribution to Research Administration.
Pat’s favorite quote:
“You can have everything in life that you want if you will just help enough other people to get what they want.” – Zig Ziglar
